Your files. Your server. Your network. No cloud, no subscription, no tracking. Just software that does what you tell it to.
File Hunter Pro is a one-time purchase. No subscription. No recurring fees. No “free tier with limits”. You pay once, you own it, it’s yours.
We don’t track you. We don’t collect analytics. We don’t phone home. Your license key is validated once at download — after that, the software runs entirely on your hardware with no external dependencies. We don’t even know how many machines you run it on, and we don’t want to.
There’s no DRM, no activation server, no licence manager phoning home every Tuesday. Could someone share a key? Sure. We’d rather spend our time building good software than building a surveillance apparatus to stop the tiny minority who were never going to pay anyway. If that’s you — well, that’s between you and your conscience. We think most people are decent, and we’d rather treat you like adults.
We store your email address so we can send you the license key. That’s it. No marketing lists, no newsletters, no “partners”.
Pro is an upgrade to an already-running File Hunter server. You need
the free, open-source
File Hunter
installed first — one clone, one pip install, one
command. Once it’s running, go to Settings → Upgrade to Pro,
enter your license key, and the Pro package installs on top.
Install a lightweight agent on any machine — a NAS, a media server, a remote workstation. The agent registers with your File Hunter server over WebSocket and keeps a persistent connection. Its local drives appear as locations in your catalog alongside your directly-attached storage.
Preview images, play video, and read documents stored on a remote agent — streamed on demand through the server. Range requests work, so you can seek through large videos without downloading the whole file.
Trigger scans on remote agents from the server UI. Files are hashed on the agent and ingested into your central catalog. Duplicates are detected across all machines using the same three-gate hashing strategy.
After a remote scan completes, the server identifies files that share a size and partial hash with files on other locations but are missing a full SHA-256. It requests the full hash from the agent and backfills matching local files automatically — completing cross-location deduplication without re-scanning everything.
Agent locations show online/offline badges in real time. Reconnection is automatic. Offline agent locations remain fully searchable and browsable until the agent comes back.
No analytics. No telemetry. No usage data. File Hunter never phones home. Once installed, it runs entirely on your hardware with zero external calls.
There is no “File Hunter account”. No login portal, no cloud dashboard, no profile to manage. You get a license key. That’s the whole relationship.
Your catalog is a SQLite file on your machine. Your files stay on your drives. If you stop using File Hunter tomorrow, you lose nothing. There is no proprietary format, no data hostage, no export fee.
Pick a plan above. You get a license key instantly.
In File Hunter, go to Settings → Upgrade to Pro. Enter your key. The Pro package downloads and installs automatically. Alternatively, download the package and use the air-gap upload.
Restart File Hunter. The agent management UI appears in Settings. Register agents, add their locations, and start scanning.
